For
fuck's sake, STOP

I will not serve as your advertising agency.
No no no no no!!I'm not
yet another smugsynth nerd boasting about his "collection" of synths
that were used on this and that epic record.
I'd rather not do a thing like this at all than do it in a standard way. The
story goes something like that: Back in the day when I was
getting this website started, it was quite hard to come across demos of some
models on the Internet. Besides, when I was a kid, I had this vague conviction that
synthesizers are a kind of marvellous instruments which can make totally wicked
sounds(which
actually turned out to be true).
But after following the synth environment more closely for some time, I found
myslef surrounded by shallow, cheesy
("classic") sounds, which
were nowhere near the sound in my expectations
and my thoughts of whatthose synths should sound
like. And I said
to myself 'Sweet God, what
the fuck is this?',
and what followed was an acute
need to dig up all the possibilities
overlooked by so many. So the purpose of all this is to provide
you net-surfers with the opportunity to listen to some machines from the history of mankind, which Our Mighty
Lord and Savior gracefully decided to bestow on me,
and to experience it all in a slightly different way to
the traditional one, that is, not by
watching my jean-clad ass amongst my bedroom furniture and some fatty fingers
browsing the factory patches, but by seeing something inspiring, entertaining or
simply new. I've been given a gift from fate (money, time, access to synths, whatever
you want to call it) and I'm passing it through for the sake of the community. I really don't see any
point in theoretical discussions and churning out essays about the superiority
of analog gear to digital gear, or vice versa;that’s
outrageously stupid. I've chosen to have fun and play
and therefore to showcase products, so that you can choose between them and have your fun. There's shitload of people talking a lot but creating little. I
decided to reverse the proportions
as I reached the simple
conclusion that one is characterized and defined not by what he owns
or says, but by what he can do orhas done.
Unfortunately I suffer
from G.A.S. I hate it; I hate my desires, your desires, and rambling about gear
that pays too much attention to
technical details. This
synth used SSM chips !!!But that one had CEMs
!!!Whooooaaa
!!! -who the fuck cares.
Just play it and you'll see what it's worth FOR YOU and decide if it
gives you enjoyment or not (or
otherwise masturbate over your shiny CEMs, if this is the kind of enjoyment you
look to get from a synth).
Consider this site a
sound-motion-picture gallery. Of course I do write a couple of sentences about
each synth and you can learn about my approach from the "answers / explanations"
section, but I mainly focus on demos of the synths, as I like the audiovisual
medium more and find it more communicative and valuable. And the more synths I
have, the more relative and transcendental and pointless it all becomes to me
(language is too simplistic, each synth deserves a different kind of
appreciation, etc). Just remember that I, like all people, have been living in a
specific cultural context and have my own subjective vision and taste. That's
why you won't find, for example, any trance leads or Jarresque stuff here. These
patches bore the shit out of me. But it doesn’t mean that the synth is not
capable of making them. Simple as that.
MESSAGE FOR POLAND: even if
the synth has Polish review, do read it in English too; the English version is more
accurate and more representative of my thoughts.
This is an issue that pops up
regularly in emails I get, so I need to clarify it:
All the creative content on this site is automatically copyrighted,
and created for educational purposes, and as such requires
permission to be used commercially. You may download and listen to these works
free of charge but you cannot release, distribute or sell anything. Of course
you can use the content, for example, during a lecture or presentation in a
given field. This will be called FAIR USE. Please remember that I don't make a
single dollar with anything present at this website, and I don't want anyone
else to gain benefits through it. Bear in mind that the demos are supposed to
show you what kind of music you can make on a given synth, but they are not a
repository of free compositions for just any musician out there. The melodies
I've come up with are involved in various ongoing projects, so don't ask for my
permission to use them in your productions, I can't give you that. The message
is: don't copy - just get inspired.
Don't be misled into thinking that this
is some kind of
a way to become a happy and fulfilled man
or musician. Life does not
become much brighter, easier or more
enjoyable just because you
have 50 cool synths and piles of colorful shit.
If you cross the line, it actually gets darker. I don't believe it a
big or sensible feat to gather tons of
instruments with conviction
that only large amount of
equipment will allow you to achieve fantastic results.
It's just exchanging money for
devices, paper for metal. The greatest feat - or art - is to
extract something interesting and original from a limited set of tools.
